general health and wellbeing of the public.
Australian
Horticultural Therapy Association - Statement of Purpose
To promote horticultural therapy nationally, as a valid
and effective mode of therapy, for a diverse range of disciplines including, but
not limited to mental disabilities, physical disabilities, visual impairment, acquired
brain injury, aged care, substance abuse, correction settings, youth and child care,
hospitals as well as the general health and well being of the community.
To advocate
horticultural therapy and garden related activities to the private and public healthcare
industry, academic institutions and allied professions.
To encourage horticultural
therapy activities to be conducted in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner.
To disseminate information
relating to principles and practices of horticultural therapy as a therapeutic mode
of treatment.
To promote research
related to the value of horticultural therapy.
To establish professional
standards and accredited educational qualifications for horticultural therapy practitioners.
To establish
Australian educational standards and develop training programs related to horticultural
therapy.
To establish
links with individuals, governments, businesses and associations to support horticultural
therapy initiatives nationally.
To liaise with
other Horticultural Therapy groups within Australia and internationally.
To publish
newsletters and journals to disseminate knowledge of horticultural therapy.
